The Sweden Democrats are reshuffling their members of parliament ahead of the new term. Prominent figures such as Tobias Andersson, Ludvig Aspling, and Oscar Sjöstedt are being moved from high-profile committees to more obscure positions. According to ‘party sources’ cited by establishment media, these changes should be viewed as demotions and are linked to media reports of an ambition to move closer to the Centre Party.
Oscar Sjöstedt, previously the party’s economic policy spokesperson, is leaving the Finance Committee for the Committee on the Constitution. Tobias Andersson, who has been chair of the Business Committee, will now join the Education Committee.
Ludvig Aspling, formerly the party’s spokesperson on migration policy and often in the spotlight and debate, is now leaving the Social Insurance Committee for the Committee on the Constitution and the EU Committee. Deputy party leader Henrik Vinge will instead take his place there.
According to sources for Expressen, the major reorganization is intended to make it easier for the Centre Party to accept the Sweden Democrats. The source connects this to Ulf Kristersson’s (Moderate Party) attempts to persuade the Centre Party to support a right-liberal government, and the idea that the Sweden Democrats would again accept a supporting role.
“These are demotions,” the source says.
So far, both SD leader Jimmie Åkesson and the Centre Party’s Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist have said no to that solution.

The SD press office comments on the changes by saying that it is a new parliamentary term and a natural part of the party’s development, where more members are given new and important areas of responsibility.
