93-year-old Marie-Louise had lived in the same house in Toulouse for decades and was described as the neighborhood’s grandmother. In recent years, her mobility had deteriorated and she could no longer get around on her own. Last week, she was found naked and dead in her home, together with an intoxicated refugee from Sudan. The pensioner had a broken rib, spinal injuries, and signs of sexual assault. The prosecutor states that she was raped and strangled.

The neighbors raised the alarm at around 5 p.m. last Sunday after hearing screams, insults, and blows. The front door was locked from the inside, so the police went around the back and entered through a glass panel. Upstairs, blood was found on the floor and on the mattress.

Marie-Louise was found naked in the bathroom. The Sudanese man was also lying there, on top of her. He was heavily intoxicated and is said to have fallen asleep there. During his arrest, the man also resisted the police.

The autopsy showed injuries consistent with sexual assault, a broken rib and spinal injuries, bruises on her face, and marks on her neck consistent with strangulation.

On Tuesday earlier this week, the prosecutor in Toulouse announced that she had been raped and strangled. This was reported by the French newspaper Midi Libre.

The suspect is 34 years old and Sudanese. He has refugee status and has lived in France since 2016, reports La Dépêche. He is in custody, suspected of murder committed in connection with rape.

The Neighborhood’s Little Grandmother

The neighbors are horrified after the attack on the 93-year-old woman, who had been bedridden for several months. She is described as disabled and defenseless. The neighbors helped her with everyday chores and checked in on her.

– She was the neighborhood’s little grandmother. When it happens at your own home, to someone you know. It’s terrible.
