EDITORIAL • The Social Democrats have long lauded themselves as the guardians of morality on the world stage. With grave expressions, they have explained that Swedish aid must go to democracy, human rights, and poverty reduction. But when you scratch beneath the surface, a different image emerges: a party that giggles when billions flow to murderous regimes, terror-supporting organizations, and Marxist oppression projects – but which suddenly goes ballistic when anyone other than themselves gets to touch the aid pot.
Mattias Karlsson (SD) recently summed up the Social Democrats’ approach in a scathing summary that ought to be nailed up at every town square in the country:
5 billion to Mugabe’s murderous regime in Zimbabwe?
The Social Democrats: “No problem! ????”SIDA-funded training of Hamas police forces in Gaza?
The Social Democrats: “This seems nice ❤️ Silly thing to criticize.”Hundreds of millions to UNRWA, where staff participated in the worst massacre of Jewish civilians since World War II?
The Social Democrats: “Fantastic operation ???? Give them even more money! Now!”Tax support for the Left Party’s aid foundation, which funneled money to Palestinian terrorists, Russian separatists in Ukraine, and revolutionary communists in South America?
The Social Democrats: “Nothing to comment on. Keep up the good work! ????”The Palme Center’s tax-funded cuddle with Marxist Angola and Fatah – a movement with its own terror cells, torture chambers, and 20 years without elections?
The Social Democrats: “Absolutely fantastic operation! Shameful that the Tidö government doesn’t give them ten times more than any other party-tied aid ????”
And then he points to the real hysteria: “When SD’s aid foundation Hepatica offers democracy courses to Brazilian youth, supports Ukrainian civil society and the Belarusian opposition? Then the Social Democrats scream: ‘Fascism! Scandal! Irresponsible waste! Withdraw the funds immediately! This is where we draw the line! ????????’”

It’s almost comical – if it weren’t so deeply tragic. For decades, the Social Democrats have built their entire identity on being the only ones who understand “solidarity.” But apparently, their solidarity extends further to terror groups, dictatorships, and jihadists than to democracy fighters who dare say no to the Kremlin or the mullahs.
While they shed crocodile tears over the fact that the Tidö government dares question the Palme Center and UNRWA, they willingly turn a blind eye to how their own pet projects fuel the worst forces. It’s not naivety, of course, but classic socialist tactics, where they either hide or try to whitewash the funding of terror groups, dictatorships, and jihadists. What they’re saying is, “Aid is good as long as we decide where the money goes.”

If Sweden is to have aid at all – which I strongly question – it should actually help people escape oppression and poverty. Not act as a lifeline for Hamas, Fatah terror cells, and old communist dictatorships. And it begins by stopping the Social Democrats from dictating what is “moral” and what is “scandalous.”
Invited the Iranian regime
Another tax-funded actor in society over which the Social Democrats have long wielded significant influence is the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) – an international research institute based in Stockholm, founded in 1966 following a parliamentary decision.
What draws attention is precisely the connection to the Social Democrats. Almost exclusively, the institute has been led by people with a Social Democratic background. Jan Eliasson led SIPRI as chairman of the board for many years, and Stefan Löfven is the current chairman.
During Jan Eliasson’s time as chairman, SIPRI in 2019 invited Mohammad Javad Zarif, then foreign minister of the Iranian regime. The meeting was criticized for having become more of a love-in, where Eliasson praised Zarif, which sparked debate about the institute’s neutrality and how controversial actors are treated at SIPRI events.

The Social Democrats may howl, but the truth has a tendency to irritate the eyes of those long accustomed to darkness.
