Two Palestinian activists, who immigrated to Sweden from Syria and participated in a demonstration against the war in Gaza in Uddevalla, have been charged with three counts of assault. The background is that a group of Swedish handball players were watching, and according to the Arabs, allegedly said “racist things.” The activists, however, have not specified what was supposedly racist. Instead, they are said to have questioned why the Swedes were filming at the location and why they were not showing respect for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

It was on August 31 last year that a group of Swedish youths, who play on the same handball team, had been out for a team activity in the city. They had eaten and drunk a few beers before stopping at Kungstorget in the city center.

Right in front of passersby and children, the group of Swedes was confronted by Palestinian activists, some of whom were apparently taking photos at the scene. According to police interviews, the Swedes were questioned as to why they did not respect the fact that a genocide is ongoing in Gaza.

In police interviews, one of the suspects stated that the Swedes had come to the scene, threatened them, and said “racist things.” But precisely what was said has not been elaborated on by the Arabs.

A passerby caught the incident on film, and in the video, the Arab men can be seen attacking, throwing punches and kicks, and pulling at the people in front of them.

In connection with the violent attack, one of the Swedes fell and hit his head on the ground. When the Swedes left the scene, pools of blood remained. The man who hit his head suffered a severe concussion.

Syrians Require Interpreter

On March 19, two Syrian men, aged 27 and 30, were charged. Both were born in the Syrian city of Homs, and one of the men needs an interpreter in Arabic.

Both men have denied the charges, although one has partially admitted to certain actions while denying others.
