Full-scale chaos erupted during the night leading into Wednesday as Spain defeated France 2-0 and knocked out the French team from the football World Cup. Images and clips are spreading like wildfire on social media, showing burning streets, screams, and widespread fear among the population. Nor is it the first time that immigrants have put Paris in fear in connection with football events.

The heavily favored French national team faced Spain in the World Cup semifinal on Tuesday evening, but after goals by Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro, Spain managed to close off their goal and claim a 2-0 win. Spain thus moves on to the final against either England or Argentina.

After the defeat, turmoil broke out in the French capital and the streets were literally on fire. In videos, immigrants are seen shouting, vandalizing, and setting objects on fire in the streets.

By 6 AM this morning, 141 people had been arrested by police in Paris alone, the majority for aiming fireworks at police and emergency services. In other parts of France, 40 people were arrested.

Immigrant Chaos Now the Norm in France

This is not the first time immigrants have sparked fear in Paris in connection with sporting events. In 2022, the Champions League final was held in one of the city’s immigrant-dense areas. That ended in chaotic scenes with migrants climbing over fences, riots, and robberies.

As recently as 2025, chaos broke out in France when Paris Saint-Germain won the UEFA Champions League final. Two people died, 200 were injured, and more than 500 were arrested.
