They don’t want you to read Samnytt.
Do the opposite.
For nearly two decades, we have reported on subjects other media would rather avoid. We do it because the Swedish people deserve uncensored journalism – and to help reverse the destructive trends that have shaped Sweden for far too many years.
Samnytt is not just any newspaper. We are one of the originals within alternative media, with our roots in Politiskt Inkorrekt and later Avpixlat. For almost two decades, we’ve engaged in uncensored reporting – about topics the establishment media have long done everything to hide or downplay.
At the same time, we have been labeled as a “hate site” and “far-right site” – despite being a newspaper just like the established media that use those labels. While ETC and others are seen as serious media actors, Samnytt is consistently referred to as a “site,” as if our journalism were less worthy of being taken seriously. Yet, hundreds of thousands secretly read Samnytt each week.
We have also, for a period, been part of the press ethics system, but left after seeing how the left-liberal media establishment could use the system to silence and discredit their conservative competitors.
DIFFERENT STANDARDS
Is alternative media “independent blue”?
No one could have missed the interview with SD leader Jimmie Åkesson on public TV last Sunday, where ETC was presented to viewers as an “independent red-green” newspaper. A flattering description during prime time.
Would SVT have described any alternative media so trustworthily? Hardly.
Åkesson reacted to the description and called ETC far-left. That, however, is not something ETC itself agrees with. The paper’s political editor quickly accused SD of “poisoning the debate” after Åkesson branded ETC as far-left.
At the same time, the paper itself has little hesitation in putting derogatory labels on other media. For ETC, Samnytt is not a newspaper but a “far-right site” and a “digital hate machine.”
And on the topic of far-left extremism – this week an ETC illustrator has been prosecuted for harassment after spitting in SD-top Richard Jomshof’s face during a concert in Stockholm.
By the way, ETC is not just any newspaper. Year after year, the paper has subsisted on tens of millions of kronor in media subsidies – taxpayer money.
And at the same time they point to Hungary
At the same time, several establishment media in Sweden receive large sums of taxpayers’ money in the form of media subsidies, while conservative alternative media like Samnytt are left out. This is particularly striking when those same media are keen to criticize Hungary for how the media and political power functioned during Viktor Orbán’s time as prime minister.
When Orbán was prime minister, Hungary was sharply criticized for its public service broadcaster being pro-government and for large parts of the private media market being controlled by owners with close ties to Fidesz. There were also accusations that pro-government media benefited economically in various ways.
This is criticism that Swedish politicians and establishment media are happy to highlight as a warning example concerning Hungary. But the same questions should reasonably be asked of Sweden, too.
In Sweden, the media support system is, in much the same way, designed to benefit certain parts of the media landscape, while conservative alternative media are kept out.
Bonnier News reported a record profit of over one billion kronor for 2025. At the same time, the media conglomerate receives hundreds of millions of kronor in taxpayer subsidies every year.
When Samnytt was eventually granted media support, however, it was short-lived. The terms were changed after pressure campaigns from opinion-makers in the legacy media.
This is not about equating Sweden with Orbán’s Hungary. It’s about asking the same questions and applying the same criteria to Sweden as well.
THE AUTHORITIES AGAINST SAMNYTT
The Social Democratic government wanted to censor us
Sweden’s former Minister of Justice and Social Democratic veteran Morgan Johansson has repeatedly called Samnytt “far-right” and described our journalism as “conspiracy theories.” However, he has never presented any concrete examples of the publications he refers to.
He throws out accusations without concrete proof and instead leans on recurring left-liberal campaigns against Samnytt.
Social Democratic leader Annika Strandhäll has also repeatedly urged people not to read Samnytt.
Already in 2018, questions arose about how government contacts with the big tech companies could affect alternative media. After a meeting between the then Social Democratic government and Google, Facebook, and Twitter—in which Minister of Justice Morgan Johansson participated—Samnytt’s Google ad account was permanently blocked.
As a result, about half of the newspaper’s potential ad revenue disappeared – and to this day, Samnytt remains blocked from Google’s ad platform. No way back has been offered.
Then come the police reports and lawsuits against us from left-liberal quarters – from top politicians to left-liberal activists. Media hunts where legal proceedings against Samnytt are slanted and highly relevant information left out to paint us as a bad or unserious newspaper. The attempts to cast suspicion on us and our journalism by parts of the left-liberal establishment have gone on year after year.
The problem for them?
Hundreds of thousands read Samnytt anyway.
