SR rapper Asme convicted of rape – here is the sentence

The 29-year-old gangster rapper Asme, who has been awarded by Sveriges Radio, has been sentenced by the Stockholm District Court to three years in prison for rape. He is also convicted of minor drug offenses.

The rape took place at a hotel in central Stockholm on the night of Walpurgis Night. Asme, whose real name is Asmerom Tsigabu, has continuously denied committing any crime, but has admitted that he met the woman at an after-party following the Grammis Gala, and that they then spent time together and slept in the same bed.

According to the artist, there was nothing criminal involved in the encounter, a claim the district court does not agree with. In the verdict, the court states:

“Based on the victim’s account, it is clear that there was no voluntary participation on her part and that the victim, due to sleep and intoxication, was in a particularly vulnerable situation which Asmerom Tsigabu improperly exploited.”

In addition to the woman’s own statement, the prosecution presented information from people she contacted in connection with the incident.

The district court writes that her story is supported by this evidence and at the same time assesses that she has given a credible and reliable account of the events.

“All in all, the district court assesses the plaintiff as credible and her statements about the event as reliable.”
