Medborgerlig Samling directs harsh criticism at the Swedish electoral system after the first day of early voting. The party states that ballot papers have been removed in several polling stations and describes the “fraud” in Järfälla municipality as organized and systematic.
On Wednesday, early voting for the 2026 election opened. At the same time, reports about deficiencies in the handling of ballot papers began to come in from several parts of the country.
This is according to Medborgerlig Samling, which on Thursday issued a press release sharply criticizing how early voting is conducted.
“THE ELECTORAL FRAUD CONTINUES – NO ONE CARES,” wrote the party’s deputy leader Mikael Flink in a post on X.
According to Flink, the party’s representatives in several places encountered polling stations where ballot papers from smaller parties were not present when voters were let in.

“They focus on the eight parliamentary parties”
Flink describes a system where a single electoral district chair is expected to oversee large quantities of ballot papers from parties at the municipal, regional, and national levels.
According to MED, this in practice leads to staff concentrating on the eight parties in parliament, while ballot papers from other parties risk being missing when early voting opens.
The party claims its representatives have in several cases delivered ballot papers as planned, but still found they were not laid out.
“It is an insult to everyone who gets involved when the act of voting itself is prevented because the party a voter wants to support does not have their ballot paper displayed at the ballot stands,” writes Flink.
“The fraud is organized and systematic”
The most serious allegation concerns Järfälla municipality.
According to Medborgerlig Samling, the party’s ballot papers for the municipal and regional elections have been deliberately removed from an early voting location. The party also claims the same thing has happened in several other locations in the municipality.
“In Järfälla 2026, the fraud is organized and systematic,” writes Flink.
MED simultaneously directs criticism at the election officials and alleges that there is disorder in several of the municipality’s polling stations. The party states that it has now called for an extraordinary meeting with the election committee in Järfälla to address what it describes as serious shortcomings.

Wants to see a common ballot for all parties
Medborgerlig Samling argues that the problems demonstrate that the Swedish ballot paper system is too vulnerable. The party points out that around 700 million ballot papers need to be managed and argues that Sweden should instead introduce a unified ballot.
Finland, Denmark, and Luxembourg are mentioned as role models. Flink also refers to a proposal presented by the Election Authority in 2023. At the same time, he directs criticism at both the opposition and the Tidö parties.
“The Social Democrats and the left do not want a common ballot paper. They must explain themselves why they think so,” he writes.
The government parties are also criticized for not having implemented any changes during the mandate period, despite Flink’s claim that this was included in the Tidö Agreement.
Medborgerlig Samling now demands a new electoral system, arguing that the current system makes it far too easy to influence which parties’ ballot papers voters actually encounter when placing their vote.
