In a Facebook post published last Friday, Social Democrat Ardalan Shekarabi said it is “time to take back our country from the racists.” The statement has drawn strong criticism both from the public and from political circles.
Shekarabi’s video clip is recorded in Gothenburg during the Gothia Cup, which the Social Democrat claims is an example of how well multiculturalism works. Ironically, the Gothia Cup is infamous for recurring disturbances and criminal activity.
Shekarabi holds opinions on the existence of ethnic Swedes and argues that anyone can become Swedish—a point few people in the comment section seem to agree with.
“You don’t have to be a racist just because you don’t like Islamists and the like,” writes one person.
“Our country? If I move to Iran, can I then say ‘our country’?” asks another.
“So tired of just giving and giving. Enough with the murders and multiculturalism now,” comments yet another person.
Jomshof: Sweden Belongs to the Swedes
Another person who has reacted to Shekarabi’s video is Richard Jomshof (Sweden Democrats). In a post on X, the Sweden Democrat writes that “this hatred of Swedes must come to an end” and points out that, according to Ardalan Shekarabi, it is “racist to hold the opinion that Sweden primarily is and should be the land of the Swedish people.”
“Of course Sweden belongs to the Swedes. Swedes have fought for generations to build the country Shekarabi is now intentionally trying to dismantle by promoting policies that are about to make Swedes a minority in their own country. Partly through forced multiculturalism and mass immigration, and partly by trying to diminish the Swedish people and the Swedes’ right to self-determination in their own country,” writes Jomshof, and continues:
“To Shekarabi, I can only say that it is quite bold to come to Sweden (illegally, moreover), take advantage of everything Sweden has to offer, and then accuse Swedes—the original population of Sweden—of racism. This simply because people put their own country and people first and want to ensure that Sweden remains the land of the Swedes in the future as well.
Sweden belongs to the Swedes, the Swedes belong to Sweden!”
