Indicted: Tried to Steal Handbag from 78-Year-Old Woman – Met by a Groin Kick

A 78-year-old Swedish woman came home to her remotely located house and was confronted by two burglars. When one of the men tried to grab her handbag, the pensioner refused to give in, kicking him in the groin. The thieves fled, but reportedly struck another home the same day. One of them is now indicted and also faces possible deportation.

The incident occurred on April 4 this year when a 78-year-old Swedish pensioner returned to her isolated house in the countryside in Sjöbo municipality, Skåne, and discovered two burglars inside. One of them was 30-year-old Romanian Gabriel Boscordea.

As soon as she opened the door, she heard someone on the upper floor and immediately pressed the SOS button on her alarm.

– Shortly afterwards, a man with a cap and beard came towards me. He tried to take my handbag, I went into the living room where he grabbed me and threw me onto the sofa, she said during police questioning.

Gave the Thief a Groin Kick

She then did everything she could to hold onto her handbag and shield it from the burglars. When nothing else worked, she resorted to forceful measures.

– I kicked him in the groin while lying down on the sofa. The kick must have been quite forceful as they left right after.

It was later revealed that Boscordea and his accomplice managed to get away with jewelry, trophies, a perfume, cash, a jar of coins, and a surveillance camera, with a total value of 31,340 kronor (SEK).

The woman remains shaken by the traumatic event.

The crime victim is not doing well mentally after the crime she was subjected to. She often has sleepless nights. She has developed high blood pressure since the incident. Overall, she is very psychologically affected after the event.

The victim’s quality of life has greatly decreased. She has become isolated at home because she neither dares nor wants to leave for fear someone might have entered while she was away, and that she might be surprised and assaulted again by someone.

New Burglary – Same Day

After Boscordea and his accomplice fled the scene, they apparently were not satisfied with what they had taken from the pensioner. When a family living in Hörby municipality returned home, they found a window broken and that someone had entered their property.

– I walk into the bedroom and see that all wardrobes and chests of drawers are open and the contents thrown about, the father testified.

Overall, the gang stole cigars, watches, jewelry, cash, a wallet, and a backpack totaling a value of 12,413 kronor (SEK).

Faces Deportation

Deputy Chief Prosecutor Hans Harding has now charged Boscordea at Ystad District Court. The case involves two counts of burglary and one count of attempted robbery.

Since he is not a Swedish citizen, the prosecutor has requested that Boscordea be deported from Sweden with a ban on returning.

Regarding the break-in at the pensioner’s home, Boscordea admits to burglary but denies attempted robbery. In the case with the family in Hörby, he admits to the chain of events but denies any criminal intent. He has previously been convicted of aggravated theft.

Although Boscordea has confessed and named his accomplice, the latter has not been indicted for the burglaries. The DNA found at both homes matched only Boscordea.
