A boozy night out ended in the drunk tank for the local Sweden Democrats (SD) leader Tomi Sandvik. When a couple found him in a ditch and tried to help him home, he allegedly called the woman a “whore” and threatened the man’s life. He is now being charged with unlawful threats.
It was on September 6 this year that Tomi Sandvik, the local SD leader, was on his way home after a heavy night out.
Sandvik is currently the vice chairman for the Sweden Democrats in Avesta and is a member of the municipal executive committee, which is the highest decision-making body in the municipality under the city council. He was recently re-elected to the council, as number three on the party’s ballot.
Around 1 a.m., at Månsbobacken in Avesta municipality, a couple made a macabre discovery.
– “We were walking up Månsbo backe when we saw a pair of legs; we thought someone was dead next to us. So we looked closer and I think I poked him a bit and noticed that he wasn’t dead,” the woman said in police questioning.

She then called out in an attempt to wake him; he allegedly immediately began to slur things like the woman “had no conscience.” Since he was clearly heavily intoxicated, the couple wanted to help him home.
– “He said ‘no, I don’t want any help’ and ‘get out of here’ or ‘go to hell,’ something like that (…) and then he said something like ‘you are a whore’,” the woman said in questioning.
But it didn’t end with insults. To the man, Sandvik made a death threat.
– “All of a sudden he said he was going to kill me, then he stood up and started to walk away,” the man said in questioning.

The couple decided to call the police and report the threat. Around 1:30 a.m., a police patrol found Sandvik near Skogsbo School and immediately noticed that he was “staggering heavily, slurring, and smelled of alcohol.”
On the spot, they decided to detain him under the law for taking care of intoxicated persons (LOB), and during the process, he crossed his arms and was then handcuffed.
When the patrol arrived at the police station with Sandvik, the officer in charge decided to uphold the detention and he was placed in custody.

Sandvik (SD): Could Have Been Drugged
During police questioning, Sandvik stated that he does not remember anything about the incident and that it felt “characteristic” of him to make such threats. He also expressed concern that a possible conviction would become public since he “sees himself as a public figure during an election period.”
He said he had a few beers at home and then went out with a friend to “get a feel for the town.” But when the friend didn’t want to come along, he went out alone. He had two beers at Burning Duck and one beer at Kingen. After that, he remembers nothing.
He also doesn’t remember “lying half knocked out and sleeping at Månsbobacken.” However, he wonders if someone might have drugged him.
– “That’s the first thought I get. Since it’s a complete memory loss,” he said in questioning.
According to the prosecutor’s indictment, Sandvik neither admits nor denies the crime.
