The man, a Yemeni citizen, is being prosecuted for honor-based oppression after assaulting, threatening, harassing, and controlling the mother of his child. He is also charged with several counts of witness tampering and child abuse. He has been in custody since July 31 this year, and if convicted, the prosecutor wants him deported from Sweden for life.
The case concerns 41-year-old Yemeni Yaaqoob Qaed Hamood Moncer Al-Haidari, who lived with the woman in Uppsala. They have two children together — a son and a daughter.
The relationship ended in 2024 when the woman turned to social services and subsequently initiated a custody battle against Al-Haidari.
According to witnesses, he attempted to disrupt the woman’s relationships with others, aiming to limit her social life and keep her as isolated as possible. Testimonies indicate he wanted her to be a housewife “according to tradition” and disapproved of her working.
The indictment against him lists a total of thirteen counts under the crime category of honor-based oppression. In addition, he is charged with two counts of witness tampering and three counts of child abuse.
All Charges
Count 1: Honor-Based Oppression
1. Vandalism by burning NN 1’s phone with a lighter, causing damages of unknown but not negligible value. This happened sometime between January 1 and January 10, 2024.
2. Assault by striking NN 1 with a belt, causing pain and bruising. This took place sometime between February 1, 2024, and February 29, 2024.
3. Assault by hitting NN 1 three to four times with a clenched fist on the victim’s shoulder, causing pain. This happened on November 25, 2024.
4. Unlawful threat by making threats toward NN 1, implying he would smash a glass bottle against the victim’s head. This happened on November 25, 2024.
5. Vandalism by throwing NN 1’s computer on the floor, causing damages of unknown but not negligible value. This happened on November 25, 2024.
6. Unlawful threat by emailing NN 1 with threats implying he would burn NN 1 and their children. This happened on December 1, 2024.
7. Unlawful threat by emailing NN 1 calling her a liar and a fraud, among other things, and threatening to take revenge. This happened on December 16, 2024.
8. Unlawful threat by sending a voice message to NN 1’s father, threatening to burn them all or using similar expressions. This happened sometime between December 1, 2024, and December 30, 2024.
9. Harassment by emailing NN 1 with insulting terms, calling her immoral and a whore. This occurred on March 29, 2025.
10. Unlawful threat by sending a message to NN 1, threatening to force her to kill her children and “open hell” if she did not comply. This happened sometime between April 1 and April 30, 2025.
11. Harassment by messaging NN 1’s father with statements that NN 1 is mentally ill, a whore, and unruly, claiming that if her male relatives knew how to control her, everything could have been settled. This happened sometime between April 1 and April 30, 2025.
12. Harassment by emailing the victim with demeaning statements, calling her a whore, thief, fraud, and beggar. This happened on July 12, 2025.
13. Harassment by emailing the victim with offensive expressions, calling her a whore. This happened on October 21, 2025.
A motive for these actions was to preserve or restore the honor of a person or a family, clan, or other similar group.
Count 2: Witness tampering — Yaqoob Al-Haidari, with threats of violence, targeted NN 1 for contacting social services. The attack consisted of sending NN 1 an email threatening to burn NN 1 and their children. This happened on December 1, 2024.
Count 3: Witness tampering — Yaqoob Al-Haidari, with threats of violence, targeted NN 1 for filing a lawsuit at district court. The attack consisted of an email threatening to force the victim to kill her children and “open hell” if she did not cooperate. This occurred sometime between April 1 and April 30, 2025.
Count 4: Child abuse — Yaaqoob Al-Haidari committed vandalism against NN 1 in accordance with point 1 under Count 1.1. This occurred between January 1–10, 2024. The crime was witnessed by NN 6, son of Yaaqoob Al-Haidari and NN 1.
Count 5: Child abuse — Yaaqoob Al-Haidari committed assault, unlawful threats, and vandalism against NN 1. This happened on November 25, 2024. The crime was witnessed by NN 6, son of Yaaqoob Al-Haidari and NN 1.
Count 6: Child abuse — Yaaqoob Al-Haidari committed assault, unlawful threats, and vandalism against NN 1. This happened on November 25, 2024. The crime was witnessed by NN 5, daughter of Yaaqoob Al-Haidari and NN 1.

“Then I will burn you, your children”
The alleged crimes are said to have taken place over nearly two years, from January 2024 to October 2025. Evidence against Al-Haidari includes numerous messages, Facebook posts, and emails.
In one of the emails he sent to the woman, he wrote, among other things: “If I move forward with this case, then I will burn you, your children, and myself. I have nothing more to lose.”
In a text message he wrote: “I swear by God and my honor to make you execute your children.”

“You are a whore and a street whore”
One of the incidents, on November 25, 2024 — when Al-Haidari allegedly hit the woman on the shoulder 3–4 times, threatened to smash a glass bottle over her head, and threw her computer to the floor — was captured in an audio recording.
On this recording, he is heard telling her she is a “whore and a street whore”, and repeatedly swearing by God that he will commit various acts, including smashing the glass bottle on her head. One of the children can be heard crying throughout.

Denies all charges
Al-Haidari completely denies all the crimes he is charged with.
He claims the woman wants sole custody of the children and has thus fabricated the allegations against him to win the custody dispute. He also says he himself has been subjected to violence by her (thrown glasses, hitting, etc.), but never reported it because, according to his upbringing, one should not report a woman.
Regarding the emails and threats toward the woman, he says they were written during an extremely difficult period in his life (his mother died in October 2024, separation, depression, and alcohol abuse). He claims he does not remember some of them and did not mean some of them literally.
As for the threat to burn his wife and their children, he says “burn” is a metaphor for forgetting or losing the children and is not about physically burning them.
Now, district prosecutor Andreas Triumf has brought charges against Al-Haidari. If convicted, Triumf wants him deported from Sweden with a lifetime ban on returning.
