Samnytt needs your help to be around next year

Six months ago, we appealed to you to support Samnytt so that we could make it through the year. The response from our readers was enormous, and we saw a clear boost in our revenue that month. For this, we are incredibly grateful – you showed that you want Samnytt to stay.

The problem is that many forget to renew their subscriptions. One-time contributions also help, but what really keeps us afloat is stable, ongoing revenue in the form of subscriptions. It is these that allow us to plan long-term, increase hours, and hire more journalists to continue delivering exciting news, reports, and investigations that you as readers expect from us.

We have five journalists and one IT employee who have been working on the newspaper recently – five editorial staff at different hours and a half position responsible for our technical operations through an external IT company. So, we do not have a large editorial staff like many other media houses with their broad staff and we also do not have a large cost base to cover. Every penny is used efficiently to cover most of the news world with daily news, in-depth dives, investigations, reports, and interviews.

But without stable income – without any significant advertising due to our journalism, government support, or external financiers that many other media have today and also costly legal proceedings – we have had to reduce the staff’s hours. From an editorial staff previously with three full-time, two part-time, and our IT resource part-time, we are now down to two full-time people, while others work fewer hours.

We want to reverse this trend here and now. We want the election year to be filled with interesting and impactful journalism, which you as loyal Samnytt readers can always rely on. But it is you who make it possible – our readers are our only stable source of funding. However, the income varies greatly, largely because subscriptions are forgotten when they expire. Therefore, we can sometimes recover for a period, only to face the same challenge a few months later.

Soon we are approaching the end of the year and Samnytt has now passed over 31,000 published articles since its inception. Despite protracted legal proceedings and heavy damages, our small editorial staff has continued to tirelessly fight year-round. We have continued to deliver investigative journalism, an active news flow, and reports that often highlight things that establishment media choose not to show.

31,000 articles are not just a number. It is 31,000 stories, reports, and news that have challenged the sanitized image in Sweden. It is 31,000 occasions when we have stood up to give you the truth – despite the various censorship attempts against the newspaper, boycott campaigns that have prevented us from having ads, lack of government support, a responsible publisher who has been placed under house arrest after an investigation, and also forced to pay enormous legal costs in the case. In addition, a long list of other legal proceedings where the establishment and left-wing activists have tried and continue to try to crush our economy.

A serious situation for next year

Samnytt is now facing a decisive period. Our business has extremely limited advertising revenue and no government support or financiers, unlike many other media. We are entirely dependent on our readers for the newspaper to stay.

We know that many of you follow us every day — but few choose to contribute financially. Many also contribute, but the subscription is often forgotten and expires, making our revenue uncertain. If you appreciate our work, we ask you not to take Samnytt for granted. To continue developing the newspaper with new investigations every day, to be able to increase hours and hire more journalists, and to continue to be a strong voice in the Swedish media landscape, we need your support.

Now we want to create tens of thousands of new articles and continue to reach even more – but to achieve that, more of our hundreds of thousands of readers need to take the step and become subscribers. Then we can expand and step up – not least through many new exciting video reports and documentaries that you know we want to continue working with.

We have to ask you: Do you want Samnytt to be around next year?

If the answer is yes, we ask you to consider a subscription or a donation. Your contribution – regardless of size – is crucial for us to be able to continue running the newspaper through next year.

What your support goes to

  • 80–90% goes directly to journalism: articles, investigations, daily news, operations, and technology.
  • The remaining part goes to legal defense in legal proceedings.
  • We continue to fight despite very limited staff and therefore want to strengthen the editorial staff for 2026.

Thank you for reading Samnytt

Your support means more than you think. With your help, we can continue to publish our investigations and stand firm throughout the upcoming election year. We will also relaunch our video initiative with reports and documentaries.

Thank you to those who already support Samnytt and make the newspaper’s operations possible. Thanks also to everyone who has read Samnytt over the years – we hope that even more of you want to contribute now, so that together we can write another 31,000 articles, and make them even better.
