Three people were injured in connection with a shooting in a residential area in southern Stockholm on Saturday morning. The incident occurred after a conflict arose during an ongoing eviction, according to reports.
Police were alerted to the scene around half past ten on Saturday after calls about a shooting in a residential area in Älvsjö. When officers arrived, they found three injured people – two men and a woman.
According to information provided to Expressen, a tenant was supposed to leave a residence after a dispute. At that point, the situation escalated and the man opened fire on people present at the site. Among the injured is a lawyer who was there to assist with the eviction.
The police report that one of the people who were shot has serious injuries, while the other two were hit in the arms and hands and are considered to have less severe injuries. All were transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment. During the operation, an ambulance helicopter was seen landing in the residential area.
The man who was reportedly being evicted from the residence is in his 60s and was able to be apprehended shortly after the shooting. The police describe the incident as “isolated” and state that there is currently no danger to the public.
Furthermore, it is reported that the man who opened fire on the individuals previously ran a company that was forcibly liquidated last year due to deficiencies in accounting. He has previously been convicted of accounting offenses, and financial claims were directed against him in connection with the bankruptcy.
Major operation in the area
Residents in the area describe a massive emergency response after the shooting. Several police patrols including dog handlers and a special task force, ambulances, and helicopters were reportedly seen in the area on Saturday.
The shooting is being investigated as attempted murder, and the police investigation will continue at the scene throughout the weekend, including interviews with witnesses.
