A widely discussed incident in the state of Texas has sparked an intense debate about immigration, religious freedom, and freedom of speech in the United States. A woman who was filmed confronting two Muslim women in a grocery store has become the target of both extensive criticism and strong support from conservative activists.
The video was recorded in a store in the city of Conroe, north of Houston. In the footage, the woman can be heard telling the Muslim women that they are not welcome in either the state or the country. She says, among other things, that the USA is “a Christian country” and that the women should return to an “Islamic country.”
The clip quickly went viral on social media and has received millions of views in recent days.

Soon after the video went viral, a fundraiser was started on the GiveSendGo platform. According to the fundraiser’s description, the woman had been outed online, lost her job, and received threats following the attention.
By Monday evening, the fundraiser had raised nearly $145,000, equivalent to about 1.4 million Swedish kronor. Several conservative figures have urged their followers to contribute financially.
Criticism and Support
The incident has also been condemned by several politicians. State Representative Suleman Lalani described the video as an example of growing “anti-Muslim sentiment” and wrote that this is not an isolated event. He argued that the most worrying aspect was the conviction among those who see ordinary neighbors as a threat to the country.
State Representative Vikki Goodwin also criticized the woman’s behavior and called for respect between people with different beliefs. Meanwhile, Congresswoman Nancy Mace expressed her support for the woman on social media.
A nurse was recorded telling another shopper that Islam is a “terrorist organization” and that the woman worships a PDF. She also stated, “This is not a Muslim country, this is a Christian country.”

According to local media, the woman was identified by internet activists shortly after the video was published. A massage business in Conroe then announced that it had terminated the employment of a worker involved in the widely publicized incident.
The company stated that this was not the first incident of its kind and that it stood by its decision to part ways with the employee. The announcement, in turn, led to a wave of both critical and supportive reviews directed at the business.
Larger Debate
The controversy comes at a time when issues of Islam, immigration, and American identity have gained increased attention in Texas. During the Republican state convention earlier in June, several Muslim Republicans reported being urged to leave both the party and the country.
The discussion partly revolved around campaigns against Sharia law, something Muslim representatives have described as a pretext for broader suspicion of Muslims.
The case in Conroe has thus developed from a single confrontation in a grocery store into a national symbol. For critics, the incident illustrates a growing hostility towards religious minorities, while supporters see the woman as an example of someone being punished for expressing her opinions. The debate continues to grow as the fundraiser raises ever-larger sums and new political voices join the discussion.
