In his recent address to Congress, President Donald Trump stated that what the Democrats claimed was needed to get the border under control, legislation, was not true, and what was needed was a new president. And it has quickly shown.

During Joe Biden’s presidency, illegal migrants flowed into the USA in record numbers. As soon as Trump took office, he signed executive orders to address this, and by February, it was noted that illegal immigration across the border with Mexico had almost been eradicated.

From tens of thousands to hundreds

In February, 408 migrants crossed the Darién Gap to Panama from Colombia, a decrease from the more than 37,000 who made the journey a year earlier. It is the lowest number since the borders were closed in 2020 amid the pandemic. Of those who made the journey last month, 151 were from Venezuela, 43 from Cameroon, and 22 from Bangladesh.

The number of migrants entering Panama has decreased since September when President Jose Raul Mulino’s administration closed off several routes through the dense jungle and increased security patrols.
