An elderly man in Landskrona has stopped using his safety alarm because he feels mistreated by home care staff. The situation has become so severe that, according to a Lex Sarah report, the man chose to remain seated in his own feces rather than ask for help.

The incident was discovered during an evening visit earlier this year when staff found the man in a very vulnerable state. The man, who needs help to use the toilet and wears incontinence protection, explained that he avoids calling for help because he feels unsafe around certain employees who are very unpleasant.

The report also states that relatives have previously expressed concern about the staff’s conduct. The situation is considered serious because the man’s health could suffer if he does not dare to ask for assistance. Among other things, there is a risk of infections and skin damage if the problem continues.

According to the report, this is not the first time similar incidents have occurred, and there are concerns that it may happen again if no changes are made.

Improving Work on ‘Core Values’

The manager of home care services in Landskrona, Josef Alsuhairi, describes the situation as very serious and emphasizes that no client should feel uncomfortable reaching out to home care staff.

He explains that the service continues to work on issues relating to staff conduct and core values, and that such cases are always investigated individually. Discussions are held both with the involved staff and with those who have voiced concerns to gain a better understanding of the experience and to implement the right measures.

– You can always improve your conduct; working with core values and how we care for the elderly is an area of constant development. Even if we have good conduct, it can always be better, says services manager Josef Alsuhairi to HD.
