U.S. President Donald Trump is threatening to abandon Europe if European countries do not change their migration policies. Following the violent riots in France, he accuses Europe’s leaders of having let in millions of people who, according to him, are on the verge of destroying the continent. The warning is in line with the White House’s national security strategy, in which the U.S. explicitly warns that certain NATO countries could gain a non-European majority population and therefore change their attitudes towards the alliance with the U.S.
The extensive violent riots in France have led President Donald Trump to deliver one of his clearest warnings yet to European political leaders. During a speech in Kansas on Monday, he stated that the U.S. might abandon Europe if European countries do not succeed in reversing, what he considers, the developments caused by mass immigration.
Trump described France as a formerly successful country now being destroyed by migrants, jihadists, and communists. He simultaneously accused left-leaning politicians of having opened the borders to millions of people from the third world, who, he claims, lack respect for Western values and do not wish to adapt to the societies they have moved to.
The president asserted that this development is not limited to France, but is also ongoing in Germany, Italy, and other countries. He therefore urged European governments to close their borders for an extended period and to start deporting people who, in his words, despise their new home countries.
– We stand with Europe, despite its flaws and weaknesses. But if they do not soon find the right path, we will have no choice but to leave. This is a very serious situation, Trump said during the speech.

Trump: Europe Is Losing Its Countries
The statement comes after several days of widespread unrest in France, where established media and authorities describe the protests as an expression of discontent with rising living costs and shortcomings in the education system. At the same time, the protests have escalated into violent riots where buildings and vehicles have been set on fire, shops have been looted, and police officers have been attacked.
However, Trump believes that it is migration policy that is behind the increasingly violent developments. At a meeting with journalists, he dismissed the explanation that the unrest is primarily about dissatisfaction with the schools and the economy.

According to the president, he has for several years warned French President Emmanuel Macron, Germany, the UK, and other European leaders about the consequences of allowing extensive immigration.
– Europe must change its ways, or else there will be no Europe left, Trump said at a press conference.
He claims that people lacking loyalty to their new home countries are now helping to destroy European societies and that politicians must act before it becomes impossible to reverse the trend.
The White House Already Warned About Europe’s Future
Trump’s latest statements are in line with the national security strategy that the White House presented in December 2025. There, Europe’s migration policy and demographic developments are explicitly highlighted as issues that could have far-reaching implications for the U.S.’s future relations with its European allies.

In the document, National Security Strategy of the United States of America, the Trump administration warns that Europe’s problems go far beyond economic stagnation and inadequate defense investments.
In this dark view of the future, the White House asserts that although Europe has economic difficulties, these are “overshadowed by the real and starker prospect of the obliteration of civilization” within the next 20 years.

The White House describes, among other things, mass immigration, declining birth rates, weakened national identities, and the EU’s supranational influence as factors threatening the future of European civilization.
The major issues facing Europe include the activities of the European Union and other transnational bodies undermining political freedom and sovereignty, migration policies that are transforming the continent and creating conflicts, censorship of free speech, suppression of political opposition, falling birth rates, and the loss of national identities and confidence.
The Trump administration also stated that “Europe is still strategically and culturally important to the U.S.” but that its views on the continent are consistent with previous statements on migration and freedom of speech.
But the security strategy goes even further. It explicitly addresses how immigration could alter the population composition in Europe’s NATO countries.

According to the document, Europe risks becoming unrecognizable within 20 years if the current trend continues. The administration also questions whether certain European countries will have sufficiently strong economies and armed forces to remain reliable allies to the U.S.
“In the long run, it is more than likely that some NATO members, within a few decades, will have a majority non-European population,” the document also states.

Affects Relations with NATO Countries
In one of the most noted sections of the document, the White House writes that it is entirely plausible that certain NATO countries could, within a few decades, have a population in which the majority is of non-European origin.

The administration then raises the question of whether these countries will still regard their place in the world and their alliance with the U.S. the same way as the countries that once founded NATO.
This means that Washington does not see Europe’s migration policy merely as a European domestic issue. In the security strategy, demographic developments are directly linked to U.S. long-term security interests and its relations with European defense allies.

Criticizes NATO Countries
During a campaign speech in Kansas on Tuesday, Trump also linked his criticism of Europe’s development to the European NATO countries’ reluctance to assist the U.S. during the war with Iran.
The president criticized what he described as a one-sided relationship, where Europe expects American support for its security, but is not prepared to reciprocate when the U.S. needs help.
Trump further claimed that he had asked European allies for help, not because the U.S. needed it, but to test their willingness to support the White House.
Trump:
We asked for help in Iran, help which we didn’t need, but I was testing NATO. https://t.co/yeQ8aWbpzC
