The Sweden Democrats and the government are now appointing a special inquiry to map the extent of political Islam and Islamism in Sweden. The announcement comes after the parties of the Tidö Agreement have long warned that Islamist movements are using civil society to push their ideology.
The parties describe the threat as organizations and networks that operate within civil society, the education system, study associations, and club life. The investigation will examine the occurrence of Islamist infiltration and analyze how political Islam affects Swedish social institutions.
They specifically point to the Muslim Brotherhood as a central actor behind Islamist influence and refer to international reports highlighting Sweden as particularly vulnerable to such activities.
The so-called LVU campaign is also mentioned as an example of how Islamist actors have spread disinformation to undermine trust in Swedish authorities.
– Neither political Islam nor Islamism has any place in Sweden. Therefore, it should now be mapped and stopped, write Richard Jomshof (SD), Christina Axén Ohlin (M), Hans Eklind (KD), and Simona Mohamsson (L) in an opinion piece in Aftonbladet.
