28 million kronor distributed across a dozen different administrations. That’s how much Malmö’s taxpayers spent on municipal interpreter costs last year. This was revealed in a recent review conducted by Samnytt. Now we turn our eyes north.

In our review of Malmö’s interpreter costs, one administration stood out significantly — the Department of Labor Market and Social Affairs, which accounted for 18 of the total 28 million in 2025. Coming in second was the Compulsory School Administration with 5.6 million.

In connection with the review, SD Malmö revealed they are running on a platform to introduce interpreter fees for people who have immigrated.

– I would argue that there are many in Malmö who have made it a habit to request interpreters. A luxury that we law-abiding citizens then have to pay for. This must end and it will also be an election promise, opposition council Magnus Olsson (SD) told Samnytt.

This time, we have looked at Stockholm, which since 2022 has had a red-green coalition government consisting of the Social Democrats, the Left Party, and the Green Party, with support from the Centre Party.
