Gangsta rapper Alex Ceesay, who over the years has been convicted of multiple crimes and repeatedly served prison sentences, is now being prosecuted for assaulting a man in central Stockholm while allegedly under the influence of amphetamines, according to the indictment. This comes despite previous praise from SVT and his claims to have left the criminal lifestyle behind, to follow Allah and perform his five daily prayers. The victim, whose face was shattered, described the incident as an “insane attack.” Samnytt can now reveal more about the indicted gangsta rapper.

The incident occurred around 2:30 AM on the night of November 15 last year. According to the indictment at Stockholm District Court, two Swedes were walking on Karlavägen in Östermalm, central Stockholm, when they encountered the 35-year-old rapper Alex Ceesay, who has Swedish-Gambian family roots.

The victim is a man in his 20s studying at university. During police questioning, he stated that he received between five and ten punches to the face.

“I don’t really remember anything. I recall looking down and seeing cement slabs and just blood streaming down onto the asphalt sidewalk,” the victim told police.

After the punches, the gangsta rapper is said to have left the scene, while the assaulted man was taken to the hospital, bloodied in his face and on his clothes.

“I’m really shaken up. My memory at the hospital is that it was hard to grasp reality after what had happened,” said the victim.

His friend has a clearer memory of the incident outside Engelbrektskyrkan. According to his statement, they encountered the indicted gangsta rapper, who appeared aggressive and acting out.

The friend then reportedly asked, “What do you want from us?”, while trying to leave the area to avoid him, since he seemed intoxicated.

According to both men, Ceesay soon turned around, ran after them, and attacked them without provocation. He allegedly dealt several punches to the victim’s face, while the friend tried to pull him away.

“Almost Animalistic Attack”

Police investigation reveals that the victim sustained a cut above the eyebrow, a nasal fracture, and pain in the head and jaw from the blows. The victim described the attack as completely unprovoked.

“I’ve never experienced anything like it. It was an insane attack. I didn’t see it coming at all.”

“It was an almost animalistic attack that came out of nowhere. It was entirely unprovoked and extremely violent.”

During the police interview, the university student also said that the injuries resulted in a concussion, and he has not been able to study as normal since, causing him to fall behind in his education.

“It can happen to anyone, and it was lucky that it happened to me and not to an older person. That person probably wouldn’t have survived these injuries.”

Blood on Fist and Clothes

Police received a description of the suspect and were able to apprehend him a few blocks from the crime scene in Östermalm. At the arrest, officers discovered what was described as dried stains on one hand and a shoe, which they took to be blood.

The arresting officers’ incident report also stated that Ceesay appeared lethargic in his speech and body language, and had difficulty explaining his actions that evening. According to the indictment, subsequent testing showed he had amphetamines in his blood.

The Defense: They Approached Me

However, during police interrogations, gangsta rapper Alex Ceesay gave a completely different account of the incident in Östermalm, which left the area with a bloody fist and the victim hospitalized with a shattered face.

According to Ceesay, it was the men walking in Östermalm who recognized him from the internet and acted threatening toward him.

“I was out walking. Two buzzed guys approach me. They recognize me. I think they were excited and started pulling on me.”

“I get punched and I end up on the ground with one of them. Then they start yelling, ‘What’s happening?’ We get up, we separate, so to speak.”

When retelling the event, Ceesay claims he was taken into custody right after the fight, although the investigation states this happened several blocks away after the victim had already been taken to hospital.

In his police interview, the rapper stated that he is often recognized when out, which he finds stressful.

“Everyone isn’t friendly, people drop their inhibitions. Since I was about to fall, it might be that I threw something as well, but I was also hit.”

He denies, however, that he punched the victim in the face and claims the injuries resulted from them falling to the ground.

“I’m tired of this scenario where people feel that, sometimes I feel like an animal in a zoo. People don’t even respect privacy, especially when they’re drunk. Then I have to go to the station after what they did and be accountable.”

In the interview, Ceesay also said people often come up to film and photograph him. The two men, however, stated in their interviews they did not recognize the rapper when the blows were delivered.

“Take people out – don’t care if kids are in the car”

Samnytt can reveal more about the now indicted gangsta rapper and YouTuber Alex Ceesay, who over the years has become known for gangsta music often centered on and romanticizing a gang-criminal lifestyle. Ceesay has millions of plays on platforms like Spotify and YouTube. For many years, he has been seen as one of Sweden’s biggest rap artists.

In a song with nearly five million views on YouTube, Ceesay raps lines such as: “I take people out, no bullshit,” “right in traffic you lose your life, we don’t care at all if your child is in the car,” “my clique aims at the head,” and “you know when you back us in the rear window you get taken out.”

SVT and SR Highlighted the Rapper

In 2021, he was highlighted by Swedish Television (SVT), and in that broadcast it was claimed he had left the criminal life behind, even though just a year earlier he had been indicted for murder and serious weapons offenses in Nacka.

“I was extremely lost and I started to gradually have a more and more romanticized view of what it was like. It drew me in that direction,” Alex Ceesay told SVT about his time in that world and gangsta rap.

In 2024, the year before the alleged assault in central Stockholm, the rapper again appeared on SVT. There he was presented as someone who had left crime behind and now wanted to be a role model for others.

Ceesay then stated that he wanted to compensate for gangsta rap in a positive way by spreading a brighter message.

“I want to show that it’s cool to be sober, cool to work out, and cool to respect yourself,” he told SVT, which gave him a platform.

Other gangsta rappers have also previously been highlighted in established media, such as Sveriges Radio and in Malou von Sivers’ interview program on TV4.

Charged with Murder

In the highly publicized murder investigation in 2020, Ceesay was charged with, among other things, murder and serious weapons offense after a man was found shot in the forehead and dumped at a farm in Knivsta, between Arlanda Airport and Uppsala.

According to police investigation, people at the scene attempted to set fire to the body as it was dumped at the farm. The severely burned body was later discovered by the property owner while out walking their dog.

The man, however, was not shot at the site outside Knivsta where the body was found. According to the investigation, it happened at a party in Nacka, south of Stockholm. There, the victim was struck by a bullet to the forehead when, according to those charged, someone was handling a pistol and it fired by accident.

Afterwards, people at the scene allegedly tried to clean up blood and transported the body to be dumped at the farm outside Knivsta.

During the police investigation, Ceesay testified that a shot had been fired at the party, but that it was an accident when someone was fooling around with a gun. He denied he was the one who fired.

The Nacka District Court decision states, however, that there are “a number of circumstances to varying degrees indicating that it was Alexander Ceesay who fired the shot.”

The evidence that the Police and Prosecutor’s Office submitted was not sufficient for a conviction for murder. However, the court found Ceesay guilty of minor weapons and drug offenses in the same case.

As Ceesay had also been remanded in custody during the extensive murder investigation, the penalty for the crimes he was convicted of was 30 daily fines of 50 SEK each.

Convicted of Bloody Assault — In Prison

Aside from the murder case south of Stockholm and the acquittal, Ceesay has previously been charged and convicted of other crimes.

Among other things, he was convicted in 2021 for assault that occurred while serving a prison sentence in 2017 at Kumla Prison. The victim was subjected to violence resulting in a bloody face.

After his acquittal from the murder charge, where life in prison could have been the result, Ceesay has on several occasions, both in interviews and on social media, stated that he has changed his lifestyle and become a practicing Muslim who follows Allah and prays five times a day. Despite these claims, he has continued to appear in new criminal investigations.

In 2023, he was convicted of aggravated money laundering. According to a verdict from Värmland District Court, he allowed his bank account to be used and handled gold bars worth hundreds of thousands of kronor in a fraud scheme. The penalty was probation and nearly 1.6 million kronor in damages.

Prior to the 2023 conviction, there are a full 20 entries in his criminal record. He has previously been convicted of, among other things, robbery, attempted robbery, aggravated assault, violence against an official, intimidation of a witness, and vandalism.

Now Ceesay is again facing trial — this time at Stockholm District Court, charged with a bloody assault on a, according to court documents, unknown and passing individual in central Stockholm.

Ceesay, who denies the assault, once more claims he has changed his life and now lives a healthy lifestyle. According to him, the incident in Stockholm happened during a dark period in his life.
