SVT has interviewed one of the Social Democrats’ candidates ahead of this autumn’s election. In the interview, the candidate expresses that the party does not intend to tighten immigration policy if the Social Democrats come to power after the election.
The interview centers on Nybro resident Ella Nyström, who turns 18 on the same day the election is held. This will thus be the first time she gets to vote – while also standing as a candidate for the municipal council in Nybro for the Social Democrats.
Ella’s political engagement began about a year ago after she passed the SSU’s campaign tent at Stora torget in Nybro. Shortly thereafter, she was nominated by the youth wing for the Social Democrats’ municipal list, where she was placed in position 14 ahead of the election on September 13.
When asked which issues engage young people in Nybro, Nyström mentions, among other things, school and elderly care, but above all points out immigration as the topic most often discussed.
In the interview, Ella Nyström also says that the Social Democrats are not a party that wants to tighten immigration. This statement gives an impression of the party’s internal policy and stands in contrast to the more restrictive profile that the party leadership has recently tried to project in the national debate.
– There is a lot of talk about schools and elderly care, but I mainly believe it’s about immigration. I believe in promoting S policy on integration, because we are not a party that wants to tighten immigration, she says to the public broadcaster.
