In the run-up to the election, there is currently an intense campaign against the normalization of immigration policy that the government and the Sweden Democrats have implemented, with the left seeking a return to open borders. After protests against the so-called teenage deportations, the tactic now is to focus on and amplify individual cases. At the same time, both Jimmie Åkesson and Ulf Kristersson warn about what a red-green victory this autumn could mean.

Both in the media and on social media, a great deal is now being made about 95-year-old Rabea Allah Wais, who came to Sweden 20 years ago. She is wheelchair-bound and lives with her daughter in Östberga and is now set to be deported to Iraq. A petition has also been launched.

After several rounds, she was already rejected for a residence permit in 2008. Despite this, she has remained in the country. The family’s legal representative refers to the perception that her situation was ‘regulated’ since she has been in contact with authorities and received medical care. She also has a Swedish personal identity number.

In 2022, she applied again and in February this year came the new decision—she will not be allowed to stay. According to the Migration Agency, there are neither exceptional grounds nor compassionate circumstances.

– The central issue is Rabea’s very advanced age, her serious health condition, and the fact that she lacks the means and network to handle a return. If this is not considered exceptionally compassionate circumstances, then I wonder what would be, says the family’s legal representative Markus Madoson to Mitt i.

Was Allowed to Stay Only for One Year

The Migration Agency’s press chief Jesper Tengroth says that the woman was off their radar between 2008 and 2022.

– She has only had the right to stay in Sweden for one year. It may sound harsh and cold, but the family has had many years to resolve the situation. The fact that a person grows older, becomes ill, and needs care is not an unusual situation.

Ludvig Aspling is the Sweden Democrats’ spokesperson on migration policy and has commented on the case in several posts on X. He notes, among other things, that this concerns a person who is in Sweden illegally and costs Swedish taxpayers large sums:

Warning about Red-Green Election Victory

With less than six months to go until the election, both Jimmie Åkesson (SD) and Ulf Kristersson (M) are issuing warnings about what a red-green victory this autumn could entail:

In an opinion article, Åkesson, together with Ulf Kristersson, Ebba Busch, and Simona Mohamsson, warns that a red-green government would pave the way for a return to the old disastrous immigration policy.
