On Tuesday evening, police were alerted to the Royal Palace about an aggressive man with a weapon. During the operation, the police used live ammunition. The man was hit and taken into custody while a large area around the scene was cordoned off.
The alert was received around 6:30 pm at the Royal Palace in central Stockholm. Police described it as a case involving an aggressive man with a weapon. There, the police used live fire.
The man was reportedly armed with a knife and approached the palace guards, demanding to be shot. According to Expressen, the incident occurred at Lejonbacken. Police would not comment on the type of weapon involved.
The man was struck by the shots and taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening, according to police. Media reports indicate the man was shot in the leg.
Massive police presence around the palace
Up to 20 police cars were present during the operation. Police officers armed with tasers attempted to gain control of the man, but without success. Eventually, at least two shots were fired at the man, who was hit in the leg.
Police emphasize that there is no risk to the public. Police have yet to comment on potential criminal charges.
