A 34-year-old reality TV personality with roots in Bangladesh, who claimed to be involved with the Moderate Party, has been sentenced by Södertörn District Court to five months in prison. For just over a year, he threatened to kill and stalked citizen journalist and conservative commentator Nick Alinia. The man himself stated that his goal was to ruin Alinia’s career.

During a period spanning just over a year, from July 2025 to August 2026, 34-year-old Anil Chowdhury published a long series of posts on social media threatening Nick Alinia, his family, and close friends.

The background to these posts is that Alinia, who works as a citizen journalist, both scrutinizing the establishment and becoming known for popular video reports from Swedish streets, had written an article about him.

This occurred after Alinia noticed Chowdhury—known from TV3’s “Ensam mamma söker” and SVT’s “Första dejten”—participating in political debates on social media. There, Chowdhury claimed to represent the Moderate Party and even to be a parliamentary candidate.

Alinia then started investigating him and, according to his own account, found that Chowdhury had provided false information about his political involvement, as well as his education, wealth, and previous crimes.

– I did a deeper investigation and published it on my website. Everything about his education and criminal history, that he lies about money and other things. I contacted him asking for comments but he didn’t respond so I posted it. The day after I published the article, the threats began, Alinia explained in a police interview.

Moderate Supporter Convicted of Multiple Crimes

Chowdhury comes from a Bangladeshi immigrant family but is a Swedish citizen. According to the population register, he has emigrated to Switzerland, but in recent years he has been convicted by Stockholm District Court and, according to social media posts, still seems to move around the Stockholm area.

The man also said in police interviews that he commutes between Sweden and Bangladesh. He describes himself as a Moderate Party supporter and has been photographed with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, wearing an M-pin on his lapel. Behind the neat appearance, however, are several convictions in recent years.

A check of the criminal record shows he has been convicted of violent resistance, petty fraud, and minor narcotics offenses. He also has a history of money laundering offenses.

“Kill You in Front of Sweden”

Samnytt has obtained the court documents regarding the death threats against Nick Alinia. They show how the man, in long and detailed posts, described how the commentator would be executed—either by himself or through passing the task to gang criminals.

The posts also reveal that he had mapped out Alinia and those close to him over a long period. There were also offers of money to others to carry out the deeds. Additionally, the man wrote about his weapons experience and claimed to have access to automatic weapons.

“And then I will kill you—in front of all of Sweden. And no one will be able to stop me and my powerful friends in that world,” he wrote in posts directed at Alinia.

Defense: “Far-Right – Wants to Ruin His Career”

In police interviews, Anil Chowdhury denied the crime, stating that his only intention was to scare Nick Alinia. He argued that his statements were not actual death threats, but rather that he intended to damage Alinia’s career.

Chowdhury justified this by claiming that Nick Alinia is “far-right,” whereas he describes himself as “center-right.”

– The goal is to mock him and expose him just like he exposed me. And that I will ruin his career and possibly those close to him. Just like I had to suffer, Chowdhury explained during police interviews.

The court documents show that Anil Chowdhury was arrested and then held in custody during the ongoing legal process.

Sentenced to Prison

During the main hearing, Chowdhury admitted to having written the posts to Alinia on social media but defended himself by saying he never intended to follow through with the actions, only to disturb the commentator and make him feel unsafe.

On September 17, Södertörn District Court announced that Anil Chowdhury is found guilty of unlawful threats and unlawful persecution and sentenced to five months in prison.

He must also pay SEK 80,000 in damages to Nick Alinia, with interest, and SEK 1,000 to the crime victim fund.
