Despite the 37-year-old man being sentenced to five years in prison for repeated rapes of his stepdaughter, the district court decided not to deport him from Sweden. The court cited as reasons that the man has lived in Sweden for more than ten years and has several children here. According to the court, deportation would therefore affect both the man and the children “rather severely.” Jurors from the Moderate Party, Social Democrats, and Green Party also participated in the court’s decision.
On September 23, 2026, the Örebro District Court sentenced Wictor Haji Rashid, 37, formerly known as Azdyn, to five years in prison for child rape.
The girl lived with her mother and stepfather Rashid. In interviews with child investigators, she recounted how the abuse began with touching and later escalated to vaginal, anal, and oral intercourse, both at home and in other locations.
Among other things, she described how Rashid had forced her to perform oral sex in the car on the way home from her brother’s grave.
The Mother Didn’t Believe the Girl
She said she often knew when he wanted sex and that it felt pointless to try to avoid it. When she told her mother, she didn’t believe her. To get evidence, she hid her mobile phone under her pillow and recorded an assault on June 13 this year.
Rashid admitted to having sex with the girl on June 13 and on another previous occasion. However, he claimed that it was the girl who had initiated and that she threatened to tell her mother if he didn’t continue. The court completely dismissed his account.
The audio recording showed it was he who wanted sex, and that during the assault the girl said “ow” and that she “didn’t want to.” The court found the charges fully supported.

Escapes Deportation
As Rashid is a Syrian citizen, Senior Prosecutor Clara Åbyhammar moved for deportation upon conviction. The Migration Agency saw no obstacle to possible deportation, but nevertheless the district court chose to deny the deportation request.
The court pointed to the fact that he had lived in Sweden for over ten years and has several children here. This connection was therefore considered strong enough that deportation would severely affect both him and the children.
The prosecutor has moved for deportation of Wictor Rashid. The Migration Agency has stated in its opinion that there are no obstacles to deportation. However, it is established that Wictor Rashid has been residing in Sweden for over ten years and he has several children in Sweden of varying ages. The District Court therefore finds that his connection to the country is rather strong, and deportation would therefore affect both him and his children rather severely. The District Court therefore denies the request for deportation.

He is to pay the girl 540,000 SEK in damages. He remains in custody until the sentence can be executed.
In addition to presiding judge Tommy Eriksson, three lay judges participated in the decision: Ann Speychal (M), Bo Stenberg (S), and Elisabet Franzén (MP). The court was unanimous in its decision.
