He claimed he only wanted to take a selfie with the members of the comedy group JLC, but according to the court, it was actually an attempt to extort a quarter of a million kronor from one of them. Now, a 16-year-old has been convicted of several crimes, including attempted aggravated extortion and aggravated unlawful threat.

During renovation work in a property purchased by JLC duo Lucas Simonsson and Carl Déman, workers found gold and platinum bars worth around 13 million kronor.

On two occasions this spring, the boy, who was 15 at the time, showed up at Lucas Simonsson’s home. The second time, a relative opened the door and was met by a masked person with a weapon. A couple of weeks later, he went to Carl Déman’s home, where Déman’s wife opened the door. On that occasion, the boy was apprehended in what is known as a citizen’s arrest.

Throughout the process, the boy has denied any wrongdoing and claimed he had been tasked with ‘delivering a message’ from someone who claimed the JLC member owed him money. After completing the task, the boy was to receive a percentage. The alleged debt amounted to 250,000 kronor.

However, the message was never delivered and instead he took a selfie with Lucas Simonsson. He reportedly intended to do the same with Carl Déman. Nevertheless, chats about violent crimes and searches for Lucas Simonsson’s address were found on his mobile phone, which he was unable to explain.

The Gothenburg District Court has now convicted the 16-year-old of preparation for extortion, attempted aggravated extortion, aggravated unlawful threat, and harassment. The sentence is youth care and 45 hours of youth service. For an adult, the penal value would have been two and a half years in prison. The 16-year-old has a Swedish and Egyptian background.
