During an international conference on antisemitism in Israel’s capital Jerusalem, Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson launched a fierce attack against developments back home in Sweden. In front of an international audience, he described hatred of Jews as a growing societal problem and simultaneously announced that his party also wants to reintroduce a national terror list in Sweden.
When Åkesson stepped onto the stage at a conference center in Jerusalem on Tuesday afternoon, he wore a bandage over one eyebrow after a nightmare that ended with him allegedly falling into a mirror and requiring several stitches. Åkesson began his address with a few words in Hebrew and also concluded his speech in the same manner, which was met with applause from the audience.
– Sweden, the country of Raoul Wallenberg. Antisemitism was for a long time a marginal problem in our country. It was only something a small group of forgotten men engaged in, said Jimmie Åkesson.
He continued by asserting that, in his view, the situation has fundamentally changed due to mass immigration.
– Those who today are responsible for the hatred and violence are not marginalized, forgotten young men. They are large groups who have chosen to immigrate to our country.

Introduce a Terror List in Sweden
The conference, organized by the Israeli government, focused on how anti-Jewish hatred can be combated internationally. In his speech, Åkesson connected developments in Sweden to the need for tougher measures at a national level.
Against that background, he announced that the Sweden Democrats want to reintroduce a Swedish national terror list.
– The Sweden Democrats will take the lead in the work to reintroduce a Swedish national terror list, aiming to counter the financing of terrorism and combat terrible values that do not belong in Sweden, nor in any other country, said the SD leader.

The purpose of such a list, according to Åkesson, is to combat the financing of terrorism and counter values that he believes do not belong in Sweden. At the same time, he criticized the EU’s current work against Islamism, which he described as weak, indecisive, and fundamentally ineffective.
Åkesson also mentioned which organizations he already considers should be included on a Swedish terror list: Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and the Muslim Brotherhood.
Alongside Åkesson, a number of other conservative politicians from Europe also participated. Among them, well-known names such as Matteo Salvini from Italy, Dominik Tarczyński from Poland, and Geert Wilders from the Netherlands.
