At the beginning of January, reports emerged that Sweden Democrat MP Katja Nyberg had been caught driving under the influence and that a bag of drugs had also been found. She immediately denied these claims, and now Nyberg has posted a video on social media in which she comments on the case.

Katja Nyberg is the Sweden Democrats’ spokesperson on police matters and has a background as a police officer herself. According to the initial reports, she was said to have been arrested for drunk driving in Värmdö Municipality on December 28 after running off the road, and quick tests were said to have indicated drug influence. During a body search, a bag containing two grams of suspected cocaine was also reportedly found.

Nyberg is suspected of drunk driving and drug offenses but denies the allegations. In a written statement, Nyberg partially refuted the reports and claimed that it was “with great surprise that I read what is now being written about me and this incident.”

A few days later, the Sweden Democrats requested that Nyberg be relieved of several of her assignments.

– I see these as very serious allegations, said Henrik Vinge (SD), chairman of the Committee on Justice, to state television.

Publishes Video

After the written statement, Nyberg remained silent, but on Monday afternoon she posted a video on her X account. In it, she says among other things that she had consciously chosen to remain silent until now.

– In Sweden, you are innocent until proven guilty, and that applies to public figures as well, says Nyberg.

She claims that the information about what happened was spread without regard to whether it was accurate or not.

– That is not journalism, it is a public character assassination.

The hardest part has not been the process itself, but rather how rumors, speculation, and leaks are taken as truth before anything has been clarified.

– This is a discussion we need to have.

According to prosecutor Anders Jakobsson, the analysis of the bag and Nyberg’s blood have been completed, but he expects to be able to announce the results of the tests by the end of next week.
