Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) has announced during a parliamentary debate that she wants to appoint an inquiry into introducing the euro in Sweden, if the Tidö parties win the next election.
On Tuesday, in a parliamentary debate, the finance minister emphasized that it is high time for an investigation analyzing how Sweden is economically affected by the new security policy situation and the changing policies of the USA. Against this background, the minister is open to the possibility that the introduction of the euro may become relevant.

At present, there is no majority in favor, but large parties like the Moderates and the Social Democrats have slowly begun to open up to investigating the issue – with the strong exception of the Sweden Democrats, who are most clearly opposed.
Furthermore, the Christian Democrats, Left Party, and Green Party are also against switching currencies.
Despite the Sweden Democrats being the largest party in the Tidö collaboration, Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson is nevertheless firm that an inquiry into the euro could become relevant as soon as after the autumn’s election.
– I think the Swedish people and the current situation deserve that we conduct an investigation, said the finance minister.
In the event of an election victory, this is something she wants to pursue, but she emphasizes that a thorough analysis of both the advantages and disadvantages must be carried out.
