After threatening to bomb Iran’s power plants if the country didn’t open the Strait of Hormuz, and then postponing any potential new attack, the American president now claims he is negotiating with a “top figure” in the Islamist dictatorship.

It was in a post on Truth Social that Trump wrote the US and Iran had had, in recent days, “very good and productive talks about a complete and total solution to our hostilities in the Middle East.”

Trump also wrote that, based on “the tone of these in-depth, detailed, and constructive talks,” which will continue throughout the week, he has postponed all military attacks on Iran and the country’s power plants and energy infrastructure for five days, “provided the ongoing meetings and discussions are successful.”

A few hours after the post, new information emerged — Trump now states that the US is speaking with a “person at the top” in Iran, and that this person is not the new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

“I didn’t call. They called, they want a deal,” he said according to Bloomberg.

The Iranian side has not commented on Trump’s statement, and state media claim that no talks have taken place.
