An extraordinary digital national convention that was supposed to be a quick formality turned into a meeting lasting several hours, plagued by technical problems. Despite the turbulence, Simona Mohamsson retained the confidence to continue as the Liberal Party leader.
There was no opposing candidate, but there was still strong resistance, illustrating a significant divide within the party. The vote ended with 95 in favor and 80 abstentions.
At the same time, the entire process was questioned due to the technical problems during the meeting. A delegate from Västerbotten criticized the situation as unacceptable.
After the vote, Simona Mohamsson commented on the decision to open up for closer cooperation with the Sweden Democrats, who will now be allowed to sit in the next government – despite being the clearly largest party among the Tidö parties.
In return, the Liberals will get a referendum on introducing the euro in Sweden.
“Now we have made an important decision for our party’s future. Ten years of anxiety is over. Thanks to the Sweden Pledge, there is now a unified alternative for government on our side of politics,” Mohamsson told national television.
