Starting July 1, new salaries for the government’s ministers will take effect. The decision means that Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s (M) compensation will be raised to 211,000 kronor per month.

The other cabinet ministers are also included in the increase. From the same date, their salaries will amount to 166,500 kronor per month. For all ministers, this change corresponds to an increase of about 3.4 percent.

It is not the government itself that decides the ministers’ salaries. Instead, the responsibility lies with the Ministerial Remuneration Board, a special committee appointed by the Swedish parliament.

The board is tasked with setting both the salaries for current ministers and any severance pay for ministers who leave their posts.

The Ministerial Remuneration Board is chaired by the former chancellery chief Ove Nilsson. The other members are former parliamentary director Anders Forsberg and Court of Appeal President Monica Dahlbom. The secretary of the board is Martin Englund Krafft.

Following the board’s latest decision, the new salaries will come into effect from July 1, 2026.
