A man in his mid-20s who worked as a teacher has died after a shooting in central Södertälje on Thursday morning. The incident is now being investigated as a murder and no suspect has been apprehended. Passing children are said to have witnessed the shooting.
Police were alerted to Östergatan in the Grusåsen area at around 7:30 AM. On the scene, they found a man with gunshot wounds inside a car. According to information from the local newspaper Länstidningen, the victim was shot twice, with one shot hitting him in the head.
According to witnesses, the shooter calmly left the scene after the shooting. The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. At around 1 PM, police announced that he had died and the classification of the crime had been changed from attempted murder to murder.
SVT reports that two school pupils are believed to have witnessed the shooting and that the municipality has activated crisis support. The local newspaper further reports that the victim was registered in Norsborg in southern Stockholm and has previously appeared in criminal investigations, but is said to have worked as a teacher at a school in Salem.
Police have not yet apprehended any suspect in connection with the murder.
