The grant is primarily aimed at asylum immigrants who were granted residence permits no later than September 12, 2024, and who wish to move back to their home country. For an adult, the grant can amount to 350,000 kronor. The payment is made in three installments to those who are approved for support.
The Swedish Migration Agency estimates that the cost to taxpayers for the grant will be 110 million kronor in 2026, 180 million kronor in 2027, and 310 million kronor in both 2028 and 2029, according to the agency’s budget submission to the government.
