The perpetrator who killed two people and injured 14 in a mass shooting at a Texas bar on Sunday was wearing a shirt with the text “Property of Allah” and another shirt displaying an Iranian flag.
The shooting took place outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden just before 2 a.m. along Sixth Street, an entertainment district filled with bars and music clubs just a few kilometers from the University of Texas.
According to a couple of sources, including one within the police, the shooter has been identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne. Diagne originally came from Senegal, arrived in the US in 2006, and was a naturalized American citizen.
The suspect reportedly drove past the bar several times before stopping and firing a handgun out the window of his vehicle at people on a patio and in front of the bar. He then parked the vehicle, got out with a rifle, and began shooting at passersby. He was subsequently shot and killed by police who had been alerted to the scene.

Potential Terror Attack
According to the FBI, the shooting is being investigated as a potential act of terrorism. This assessment is based on “indicators” found on the suspect and in his vehicle. Alex Doran, acting agent in charge of the FBI’s San Antonio office, emphasized, however, that it is still too early to say anything definitive on that aspect.
Because the entertainment district has a heavy police presence on weekends, officers were able to confront the perpetrator within one minute of the initial alert. Austin’s mayor, Kirk Watson, praised the quick response of the police and emergency workers.
– They definitely saved lives, he said.
