A Swedish man employed at an LSS residential facility for disability support in Vännäs municipality outside Umeå has been remanded in custody on suspicion of rape. According to the remand application, the alleged crime is believed to have occurred over an extended period.
Court documents show that the suspected offenses took place at a disability support facility between January 1 and August 5. The municipality became aware of the police report against the employee on August 12.
The person was then suspended from work while the police investigation is ongoing. The municipality states that it has no further information due to the current preliminary investigation secrecy.

The municipality’s measures are taking place in parallel with the ongoing criminal investigation. Samnytt can report that a 47-year-old man with a Swedish-sounding name has been remanded on probable cause on suspicion of rape.
The man was remanded in custody over the past weekend. Prosecutor Jennifer Piironen remains tight-lipped about the case, citing that the investigation is in an early stage.
Rape at Elderly Care Facility
This is not the first rape investigation targeting staff within Vännäs municipality’s welfare services this year. Samnytt reported earlier this year on a pensioner who, during the Christmas holidays, was allegedly subjected to two sexual assaults by two different employees at a special residence for the elderly in Vännäs, outside Umeå.
On the second occasion, the woman is said to have been raped inside a restroom.
