Sweden Democrats’ party leader Jimmie Åkesson dismisses the idea that SD voters should help the Liberals pass the parliamentary threshold. Even though the Liberals’ future could impact the Tidö cooperation’s prospects after the election, Åkesson does not wish to urge his voters to cast tactical votes for the party.
The Liberals’ support continues to be at very low levels. In the latest opinion poll from SVT/Verian, the party lands at 1.9 percent of voter support.
At the same time, Sweden Democrats’ party leader Jimmie Åkesson clarifies that it is not in his party’s interest to vote tactically for other parties to strengthen the Liberals’ position and thereby help the party make it past the parliamentary threshold.
According to the SD leader, it is rather the Moderates and Christian Democrats who must take responsibility for mobilizing voters who want to keep the Liberals in parliament.
He further states that the Liberals are also far from the Sweden Democrats politically, describing the party as an opposing force within the partnership.
– The Liberals’ negotiating position is perhaps not the one Sweden Democrat voters want to be strongest. In fact, they are really our polar opposite in this cooperation, Åkesson tells TV4.
He adds that tactical voting for the Liberals rather belongs to the centre-right side of Swedish politics.
– We are not a centre-right party, he firmly states.
Åkesson believes the outlook for the election is fifty-fifty. He notes that even though the red-green bloc holds a lead in opinion polls, there are still many who have not decided how to vote. Many decide during the last week.
In his closing message, Åkesson addressed Sweden Democrats’ voters directly and urged them to mobilize ahead of election day.
