DEBATE • SD voters voted for closed borders but have received continued mass immigration. Jimmie Åkesson should confront Ulf Kristersson with an ultimatum: Either you close the border, or we will bring down your government. What are you waiting for, Jimmie Åkesson?
When the government took office, there was no doubt. According to SD and Minister of Migration Johan Forssell (M), the immigration policy would undergo a “paradigm shift.”
A paradigm shift is a fundamental change. Examples of scientific ones are that the earth is not flat but round and the discovery of penicillin. The political equivalent has not been delivered by the Alliance parties. After over two years in government, immigration levels are the same as under Reinfeldt. It’s best to say it as it is: SD’s voters have been thoroughly deceived.
The figures from the Swedish Migration Agency speak loud and clear.
Last year, 66,000 new citizenships were granted. The forecast for 2025 is similar. That equates to a new Luleå – every year. The most common countries of origin were Syria, Afghanistan, Poland, India, and Eritrea.
Last year, 94,000 residence permits were also granted. That equates to a new Lund.
What is the plan for these hundreds of thousands of people? What will they work with in Sweden’s mass unemployment? Where will they live when there is already a shortage of housing? How will they be integrated into Sweden?
The answer is that there is no plan for integration. Worsened unemployment, crime, and Islamism are easy to predict. But for the Moderates, it’s a price worth paying for a higher purpose. Former Moderate Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt explained the goal at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2013: The share of low-wage jobs in the Swedish labor market was then only 2.5 percent, while the average for other comparable countries was over 17 percent. Reinfeldt saw it as a problem. Mass immigration was the solution. The goal of crushing the power of trade unions and lowering wage levels would be achieved through an increased supply of desperate labor from poor countries. Open your hearts!
Reinfeldt must be grinning broadly when he sees how his policy continues, regardless of the government. First with Stefan Löfven and Magdalena Andersson, then with Ulf Kristersson and SD.
It is embarrassing and serious that Minister of Migration Johan Forssell (M) is trying to deceive the Swedish people. According to him, we now have “the lowest asylum-related immigration in decades.” But he does not take into account family reunification for previous asylum seekers. The magazine Fokus writes that family reunification has not decreased but, on the contrary, has increased by almost 20 percent.
In 2022 (S-government Andersson), approximately 21,000 residence permits were granted. In the years 2023-2024, under the Alliance government, it increased to approximately 25,000 per year.
Forssell’s claim that a lower asylum reception of about 10,000 people per year has placed Sweden at “the EU’s minimum level” is also not true. The EU’s minimum level is not a legal term, but political jargon. Sweden is not obliged to accept a certain quota of asylum seekers.
The EU country Hungary is approximately the same size as Sweden but only accepts about 30 asylum seekers per year, 300 times fewer than Sweden. A country like Slovakia accepted slightly more, 370 people in 2023, but still 30 times fewer than Sweden. The governments of these countries have listened to their voters and effectively managed to close the border.
It is evidently possible to do. So, Jimmie Åkesson – what are you waiting for?
