During the day, the Sweden Democrats’ youth league, Ungsvenskarna, is said to have held a permitted rally outside Sundsgymnasiet in Vellinge, Skåne. During the event, the school’s principal, Jimmy Sjöstedt, reportedly tried to drive away the young Sweden Democrats. Even though they could present their police permit, the principal refused to back down.

The incident is said to have occurred just before 11 a.m. on Thursday. Samnytt spoke with the SD group leader in Vellinge, Karl-Johan Persson, who shared more about the event.

“We had a police permit today to be stationed a bit outside Sundsgymnasiet in Vellinge. I was there setting up tents and flags, and Ungsvenskarna were supposed to be present there,” he says, adding:

“So when we were done and had set everything up, I went back to the municipal building and told them to contact me if anything came up.”

But suddenly, something happened at the location.

“Then Ungsvenskarna call me, less than an hour later, and say that the principal is there and wants to remove them from the site. I went over there within a few minutes to show the police permit, allowing us to be present, and told Samnytt:

“But the principal was very resistant, he didn’t want to accept it, he wanted us to leave the premises. He also told Ungsvenskarna directly that they were not allowed to talk politics while they remained there.”

Principal Suddenly Backed Down

The SD top official also explained that the principal called the police, but that they did not show up. When the principal returned, he tried to compromise by suggesting the representatives move to a different spot, but that wouldn’t work as the police permit only applied to their current location. Finally, the principal left the site.

At 12:30 p.m., the principal then emailed SD’s group leader Karl-Johan Persson, stating he had informed all staff at Sundsgymnasiet that they have the right to be on the premises according to the approved police permit. However, no apology was given by the principal.

In conclusion, Karl-Johan Persson notes that he tried to have a calm and reasoned discussion with the principal, but says the principal talked himself in circles so much that the SD politician could not make sense of what he meant.

Principal Dodges Samnytt

The fact that a high school principal drives away a democratic youth league from a rally which also had a police permit, outside school grounds, raises questions, and Samnytt therefore sought him out for an interview.

Despite repeated attempts to reach the principal by phone and email, he has not responded. We want to know why Jimmy Sjöstedt actively tried to remove Ungsvenskarna, despite them being able to produce a police permit, and also how he views the democratic aspect of what happened, as well as how he plans to act in similar situations in the future.
