Despite previous promises to cut back on tweeting, former Social Democratic minister Annika Strandhäll continues to regularly post bizarre messages. Now, she is comparing the Sweden Democrats to the Nazis in 1930s Germany.

In a documentary on SVT Play, SD leader Jimmie Åkesson says he finds it difficult to see how a practicing Muslim can also be Swedish, and opposes Liberal leader Simona Mohamsson’s description of a “blue and yellow Islam.”

– I don’t think that concept could be used because there is an inherent contradiction in it. If you are Muslim, you do not separate the secular from the spiritual; Islam comes first, says Åkesson in the documentary.

– If we assume that someone is Muslim and therefore places Islam above everything else, and it is Islam that should guide both your own life and the lives of all other individuals, and it should govern society and the laws and so on. Then I find it hard to see that one could also be Swedish.

This has enraged Annika Strandhäll (S), who on X tried to invoke the tired and overused reference to the Nazis in 1930s Germany once again – something that comes at a time when antisemitism is exploding among the far-left parties and their supporters:

Putting Islam above all else means one is not Swedish – an assertion from the Sweden Democrats that is self-evident for most Swedes, but which Strandhäll considers outrageous:
