The Sweden Democrats, led by party leader Jimmie Åkesson, have, through their alleged hatred and propaganda against Muslims, succeeded in casting suspicion on the group everywhere. This is claimed by Centre Party EU parliamentarian Abir al-Sahlani.

According to al-Sahlani, Åkesson believes that Muslims cannot be Swedish if they are practicing above a certain degree, since that would mean prioritizing Islam over Sweden. She also believes that the SD leader has a “radical nationalist view of Swedishness,” where people must place their Swedish identity above other identities in order to be allowed to be Swedes.

Behind Åkesson’s nonsense, however, lies the real message: cast suspicion on Muslims and make sure that under no circumstances do they feel part of Sweden. In this regard, Åkesson and the Sweden Democrats have already succeeded; after years of hatred and propaganda, Sweden is now a country where Muslims are suspected everywhere. We are constantly required to prove our loyalty and are held collectively responsible for every minor misstep made by an individual from the group. Incitement and hatred against Muslims in today’s Sweden has become a competition of who can go furthest.

Furthermore, al-Sahlani claims that Muslims have had to get used to the fact that “hate preachers who burn the Quran” may appear during a walk to the square with their children. Muslim parents are also allegedly expected to lie to their children and say that Quran burners do not wish any harm upon Muslims, but that it is rather a matter of freedom of expression “under attack by us Muslims simply for existing.” The alleged hatred is also said to be “a normal state in a democracy where everyone is allowed to have different opinions.”

She also argues that the fact that Muslim names lead to fewer responses to job applications and make it harder to find housing is not a coincidence, but the result of a discussion about Muslims and Islam that has gone off the rails.

Today, there are up to eight hundred thousand Muslims in Sweden; these people will not disappear from our country. They work and are present in all sectors of society. Their children have no other home than Sweden, and just like Åkesson, their parents and grandparents have lived and built this country. Sweden also belongs to them, and through them, Islam will exist in Sweden. And just as in every country in the world where Islam exists, the Islam that exists in Sweden will, over time, take on a unique local, in this case Swedish, character.

At the same time, al-Sahlani admits that there are “problems and challenges” among Muslims in Sweden, such as radicalization, hatred against Jews and LGBTQ people, and other issues. However, these problems are not said to be unique to the Muslim group.

If Jimmie Åkesson is serious about wanting to become Prime Minister, it means he must be prepared to represent all citizens, including “Swedish Muslims and their interests,” concludes the Centre Party politician.

Continues to Shout

After previously shouting in the EU Parliament and claiming there is no mass immigration, al-Sahlani was again shouting a few weeks ago:
