22-year-old Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh from Syria, who worked at the home care service in Örebro, has been charged with multiple cases of assault, abuse, and other forms of mistreatment against no fewer than thirteen elderly people. This is stated in the indictment application. The 22-year-old has a gang criminal background and has previously been convicted for acts of humiliation against several Swedish youths.

The investigation regarding the home care abuses has included a total of fifteen complainants. The eldest was a 99-year-old woman.

Two of the victims have since passed away, and when the prosecutor now presses charges against Al Khleef Almasalmeh for several cases of assault, molestation, and offensive photography, the indictment covers thirteen complainants.

“Eat shit! Whore!”

The 22-year-old home care worker has on numerous occasions filmed himself while abusing and humiliating the elderly people. In one video, his victim is a 92-year-old woman.

– You look like a monkey! he says to the woman while pointing at her.

Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh then swings his palm toward the woman’s face, without hitting her. Instead, he grabs her nose and pulls it, while making a honking sound.

He then continues to insult the elderly Swedish woman in Arabic.

– Oh, you whore! Honestly, I swear I will curse you! he says, and also:

– Eat shit! Whore!

Tortures Elderly Man

In another video secured by police during the investigation, the now accused man is sitting at a table in the same elderly woman’s home, together with one of his colleagues, who is also Arab.

Both men bang on the table and sing Muslim songs together. Among other things, the phrase “Allahu akbar” – which means Allah is the greatest – alternates with various forms of praise for the Muslim god.

In other video clips, it is an 81-year-old man who is exposed to abuse and torture. At first, the Syrian home care worker repeatedly calls his victim the “son of a whore.”

Then, the 81-year-old is tormented in the shower, as the 22-year-old Syrian pours icy and possibly hot water over him.

– I swear by Allah that I will make you freeze! Al Khleef Almasalmeh can be heard saying in Arabic.

The mobile videos were found on a phone in connection with another criminal investigation.

Keeps His Job

At the end of November last year, while the police investigation against Al Khleef Almasalmeh is ongoing, he is suspended from work with pay.

But the day after the New Year holidays, on January 2 this year, he is allowed to return to his job in the home care service.

– Because we don’t know more about the investigation, we can’t suspend him for more than a month, says unit manager Maid Prnjavorac in a police interview.

The 22-year-old Syrian therefore remained at his workplace until he was arrested by the police on the morning of January 19. The police waited for him when he arrived to work in the morning.

Al Khleef Almasalmeh was detained on January 22, and has been in custody since then.

Previously Convicted

Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh came to Sweden from Syria together with his parents and five siblings during the migrant crisis in 2015. He has been a Swedish citizen since June 2018, and can therefore not be deported.

The 22-year-old Syrian has previously been convicted of crimes. Among other things, almost five years ago he was convicted for two counts of assault and five counts of unlawful threats; crimes committed together with several other Arab accomplices.

The victims in those cases were several Swedish children and youths – eleven boys and one girl – who were traveling in Epa tractors in Värmland. The gang assaulted their victims with punches and headbutts in humiliating acts. They were also threatened with a pistol.

Despite Al Khleef Almasalmeh having a legally binding conviction for two counts of assault and five counts of unlawful threats, he was hired last March to work for the home care service in Örebro.

The person who hired Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh was unit manager Maid Prnjavorac. Prnjavorac does not want to answer Samnytt’s questions when we call him. Instead, he refers to his manager Sahra Strandberg, who is the acting operations manager.

– Hello, I refer you to her! he says.

“Complicated case”

Operations manager Sahra Strandberg tells Samnytt that the case of assault, torture, and abuse of the elderly is a “difficult” and “complicated case” for her and her colleagues.

– We have a number of affected elderly and we are responsible for the service that supports them. Of course it feels awful, she says.

So you find it unfortunate? Why do you then hire someone who is a criminal in the home care service?

– You need to take your questions to Annika.

The Annika that Strandberg refers to is Annika Roman; head of elderly care for Örebro municipality. Sahra Strandberg does not want to answer more questions. Samnytt has reached out to Annika Roman, but she has not responded.

Samnytt has also sought the prosecutor in the case. Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh denies all criminal charges.
