With the push of a button, a bank can cut off a person or a business and, within seconds, erase the economy, daily life, and everything someone may have built over a lifetime. This is precisely what happened to the entrepreneur Michael Fridebäck, who last year suddenly discovered that he had been excluded from the banking system—without any warning.
It was in April last year when Michael was sitting in a meeting and got a call from someone to whom he was selling a jet ski. The buyer wanted to make sure the partial payment had come through. Michael, who was busy with the meeting, quickly checked his phone and saw that the money had reached his account. Then he returned to the meeting.

A few hours later, when he got home and sat down at his computer to check the payment more thoroughly, he discovered that he could no longer log in. He had, without warning, been cut off from everything: the bank, his payment card, and his BankID.
