22-year-old Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh has been sentenced to prison for multiple cases of molestation and degrading photography against elderly people within home care services in Örebro. This was decided by a divided Örebro District Court. However, he was acquitted of two charges of assault.
– I have not had time to read through the entire verdict yet, says Chamber Prosecutor Hanna Göthberg to Samnytt.

The indictment, which was filed in mid-March this year, included a large number of cases of molestation and degrading photography, as well as two cases of assault, committed against thirteen elderly people. The oldest among them was a 99-year-old woman.

The crimes were committed by the Syrian home care employee from the summer of 2024 up until autumn 2025.

Sentenced to Imprisonment

One of Al Khleef Almasalmeh’s victims, the 99-year-old woman, was lifted up by her armpits so she hung outstretched. Another victim, an elderly man, was showered with cold water. All while the Syrian home care worker filmed them.

– I swear by Allah that I will let you freeze! Al Khleef Almasalmeh can be heard saying in Arabic in the latter video.

In another video secured by police during the investigation, the now-accused man sits at a table at the same elderly woman’s home, together with one of his colleagues—who is also Arab.

The two men bang on the table and sing Muslim songs together, including the refrain “Allahu akbar,” which means “Allah is greatest,” alternating with various forms of praise to the Muslim god.

In other video clips, the Syrian home care worker says, “Eat shit! Whore!” or “You look like a monkey” to the victims.

Now, Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh, who has a criminal background and has previously been convicted of crimes with elements of humiliation, is convicted of 36 cases of degrading photography and seven cases of molestation. The sentence is one year in prison.

Acquitted of Assault Charges

However, the court is divided, and presiding judge Helena Eggen would have preferred to sentence him to probation. She was, however, outvoted by the three lay judges, who determined the penalty would be imprisonment.

The two prosecutors in the case, chief prosecutor Gunnar Brodin and chamber prosecutor Hanna Göthberg, also wanted Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh convicted of two cases of assault against the 99-year-old woman.

This was partly for lifting her out of her wheelchair in what appeared to be a rough manner, and partly for allegedly hitting her in the face with a plastic glove. She can be heard screaming “Ouch, he’s hitting me” in a video.

But these are accusations from which the 22-year-old was acquitted. The victimized woman has since died, and the district court notes that it cannot be proven that she experienced pain due to the rough treatment.

“The District Court questions whether any pain actually occurred. In the absence of further evidence regarding the effects of the actions, the District Court does not believe the prosecutor has demonstrated that the conduct seen in the videos constitutes assault,” writes Örebro District Court in its verdict.

Has Not Read the Verdict

Chamber Prosecutor Hanna Göthberg tells Samnytt that she has not yet decided whether she is satisfied with the verdict or if she will consider an appeal.

– I have not had time to read through the entire verdict yet, she says, adding:

– I need to review it a bit to be able to answer questions.

Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh has been a Swedish citizen since 2018. He will therefore be allowed to stay in Sweden after serving his sentence.
