Just before midnight on Saturday evening, police were alerted to a shooting in the Väster district of Örebro. A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, but his life could not be saved.

The shooting is reported to have taken place around 11:26 PM in a residential area, where several shots were fired. As of Monday morning, the police had still not apprehended anyone suspected of involvement.

Since the incident, there has been extensive coverage about 20-year-old Hugo Mosshagen, a talented football player and first-choice goalkeeper for BK Forward, who dreamed of becoming a professional footballer.

According to the police, the player who was shot dead had no known connections to gang environments and had no criminal record. It is therefore still unclear why he was shot and killed, and there is speculation about whether this may be another so-called mistaken identity shooting.

Gunnar Nilsson, the manager responsible for the men’s team, describes Mosshagen as a central figure both on and off the pitch:

– He was a fantastic guy. Talented. Always bursting with joy, and he had that ability to lead from the back that is needed when you are a goalkeeper. He was also a great goalkeeper’s assistant coach to the younger goalkeepers. A very, very good teammate who will be incredibly missed, Nilsson told the local newspaper NA.
