An Eritrean citizen who worked in home care north of Stockholm has been charged with aggravated rape. Samnytt can reveal that the man was hired despite a recent history of serious gang-related crime – and that he continued making home visits to pensioners while being wanted for the suspected rape. Samnytt has spoken to the responsible manager.

It was on November 2, 2025, that the man, a 30-year-old Eritrean residing in the municipality of Solna, during his time off, went to the pensioner’s home and claimed to be from the home care service. Written records show that the man’s access card was used at the employer at 22:22 and 23:20, and he also opened the key cabinet twice, at 22:26 and 23:22.

Once inside the apartment, the man allegedly inserted his fingers into the elderly woman’s genitals and exposed himself to her.

At the time of the incident, the man was employed by Adela Omsorg, a care company providing home care in, among other places, Solna municipality. Through his employment, he came into contact with the victim, who is an elderly user in need of home care, which is said to have happened on one occasion during 2025.

Previous convictions

Samnytt can reveal that the care company responsible for the care of pensioners hired the Eritrean man despite several convictions in the criminal records in recent years. He has previously been convicted for, among other things, theft and shoplifting, but also for severe criminality connected to Stockholm’s gang scene.

In a judgment from the Svea Court of Appeal in 2022, the Eritrean was sentenced to two years and two months in prison for serious drug offenses and aggravated drunk driving. After serving his sentence, he was nevertheless able to get a job in home care with responsibility for the care of the elderly in their homes.

Aggravated drunk driving

On January 1, 2022, at around 4 a.m., the man deliberately drove a car while intoxicated, and a breathalyzer measured his alcohol level at 0.52 mg/l. The man confessed to the offense and was subsequently convicted by Solna District Court; the sentence was then upheld by the Svea Court of Appeal.

Aggravated drug crime: Gang-related

On the evening of April 25, 2022, police carried out a search of the apartment where the man had lived for some time. On site, approximately 128 grams of cocaine and 330 grams of cannabis were found, and the man also had 5 grams of cannabis in his car earlier that evening.

The police also found packaging materials, a vacuum packaging machine, and a scale with cannabis residue, which, according to the investigation, indicates the drugs were intended for sale.

In the man’s closet, police also found 166,500 SEK in cash and designer clothes valued at an estimated 100,000 SEK.

The police preliminary investigation into the severe drug crime states that the man was checked at an address linked to the criminal gang environment.

The location where the suspect was checked is often used in connection to open drug selling with links to gang criminality in Stockholm’s western suburbs. That is why the police patrol was in the area at XX and that’s why NN was found there. NN is also connected to individuals involved in gang crime in Stockholm’s western suburbs.

The care company’s response to the employment

The fact that a gang criminal Eritrean man was hired in home care to work in the homes of Swedish pensioners raises questions.

Samnytt therefore contacted Sanna Torslund, business area manager at Adela Omsorg, who herself participated in interrogations during the investigation, to get answers on how the company reasoned about the employment and whether, in retrospect, they feel the recruitment was appropriate.

– When did you hire (the accused)?

– We can confirm that he was previously employed by us since spring 2024, but he is no longer part of the organization.

Sanna Torslund states that the Eritrean was employed since spring 2024 to provide care to pensioners. This was shortly after he was released from prison and while he was still on probation. The probation period ended only in October 2024.

– When did his employment end with you?

– He worked his last shift on January 12, he had this type of framework agreement employment which means he worked on occasional assignments.

The court records show that the accused Eritrean man was detained in absentia on January 9, 2026, suspected of the aggravated rape. Despite this, the responsible manager claims he continued working for the company and completed his last shift as late as January 12 of that year – while the police were to arrest him.

– Surely, you are aware that he is now charged with aggravated rape?

– No, we know that there is a police investigation ongoing.

– Okay, but he was just formally charged yesterday at Solna District Court for aggravated rape.

– That we have not been informed of, we only know that an investigation is in progress, obviously, since we have assisted the police as much as we could. But I did not know if there was any charge or suspicion of a specific crime. We do not get much information.

– Did you do a background check on him when you hired him?

– The answer is yes.

– Then you know he was sentenced to prison in 2022 for aggravated drunk driving and aggravated drug crime?

– That is not something we are aware of, no.

– Shouldn’t that have come up in the criminal record check?

– Exactly, that is not something we are aware of. We have not had access to any such information.

– But he was sentenced in 2022 and received 2 years and 2 months for aggravated drunk driving and aggravated drug crime, involving large amounts of drugs.

– The police have also established in their investigation that he has ties to gang criminality in Stockholm’s western suburbs.

– Perhaps not the world’s best person to hire in home care, I would think?

– No, it does not sound like it.

– How is it that such information does not come up in a background check?

– Now, if you want to discuss his employment with us and want to ask more questions or continue the conversation, then I think we ought to set aside some more time for that. So I can know what you want to know as well.

– So, according to your routines, you usually do not hire people with this kind of prior convictions?

– Of course not.
