After claiming to have received threats on social media regarding the planned construction of a new mosque, the Muslim Community in Kalmar has decided to change the building material from wood to concrete.

According to the Muslim Community, they have been subjected to a wave of hatred and threats, especially after expressing support following the mosque fire in Hultsfred.

There has been a specific threat in a comment section this summer, urging to burn down the new mosque as soon as it is completed, which has prompted a reconsideration of security measures. The threat has been reported to the police, and now the building material has been changed to something more fire-resistant for the construction start next year.

“We changed the building material from wood to concrete and steel, and we will have surveillance cameras,” said Shadi Salame, chairman of the Muslim Community in Kalmar, to state television.

According to Salame, the alleged threats and hatred come from a few individuals in reaction to the building permit, and he states that there are isolated individuals who do not accept this and are willing to resort to violence.
