22-year-old Zaker Abdulkabir Mohsini, described by state media and prosecutors as “homeland in Småland”, was arrested last summer at Arlanda airport. He is suspected of involvement with the Muslim terrorist organization IS and is charged with terrorism.

Zaker was arrested at Arlanda airport in June last year as he attempted to leave the country and fly to Ethiopia and then on to Somalia.

Since his arrest, he has been detained on suspicion of serious financing of terrorism, serious participation in a terrorist organization, and traveling for terrorism.

“Mohsini has, during the period of October 15, 2022, to April 9, 2023, in Sweden, collected and received money and provided money with the purpose that the money should be used, or with the knowledge that it was intended to be used by the Islamic State,” reads the indictment.

Involvement with IS for several years

According to the Swedish Prosecution Authority, the suspected criminal activity is linked to the Muslim terrorist group Islamic State/IS. The crimes are said to have been committed from October 2022 to June 2024.

– We are now putting a thorough investigation by the Security Service behind us and looking forward to the court’s review of the indictment, says Chief Prosecutor Per Lindqvist at the National Unit for Security Cases, in a press release on the authority’s website.

“Homeland in Småland”

According to the detention request, he is registered in Vimmerby in Kalmar County in Småland and has Swedish citizenship. He is therefore described by prosecutors and state media as “homeland in Småland”.

However, Zaker is not a Smålander in any accepted definition of the term. According to the Swedish Tax Agency, contacted by Samnytt, he was born in Jaghuri, Afghanistan, and immigrated to Sweden in 2005. He obtained Swedish citizenship in 2009.
