The fires raging in Los Angeles could have been avoided. That’s the opinion of incoming President Donald Trump, who is now launching a harsh attack on California’s Democratic governor Gavin Newsom.

This week, the most devastating wildfires in modern Los Angeles history have claimed at least five lives, and 130,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.

Donald Trump, who will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States in a few days, has long been critical of Gavin Newsom’s lack of preventive work to avoid what has now happened.

Already during his first presidency in 2019, Trump criticized how Newsom handled the recurring fires in the state. The governor’s response was that Trump does not believe in so-called climate change.

2019, Trump also threatened to cut federal funds to California if reforms were not made to the state’s forest management.
